Listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006, the pipa songs of the Dong people are now helping to drive the development of local tourism in Wanzhai Village in Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province. Tourists travel long distances to the village to enjoy the traditional folk music. Accompanied by the pipa, a four-stringed Chinese lute, performances of Dong pipa songs are characterized by sincere and strong emotions as well as vivid descriptions of local life.
