The unique temples, pagodas and other Buddhist architecture as well as the beautiful landscapes make Luang Prabang a popular tourist destination. Located in northern Laos, Luang Prabang was once the capital city of an ancient kingdom with a history of more than 1,000 years. The city has long been a spiritual center for Theravada Buddhism in the country. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage City in 1995.
